What does Carbon offsetting mean?

A carbon offset negates or ‘neutralises’ a ton of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) emitted in one place by avoiding the release of a ton of CO2e elsewhere or absorbing / sequestering a ton of CO2e that would have otherwise remained in the atmosphere.

Where does my money go?

Cleaner Climate has a cocktail approach where client’s offsets are pooled and invested in a portfolio of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

Our customer’s money goes firstly to the procurement of their offset(s) with any profits going to the growth of our clean energy project department.

We are a member of the VCS Markit Environmental Registry - TZ1) www.tz1markit.com and have our own internal registry ensuring that each customer's offset purchase is real, traceable and retired immediately. 

Cleaner Climate is a project developer and generates its returns on project consultancy fees and carbon credits created from emission reduction projects.

What do I get for my offset?

Can I offset other emissions through Cleaner Climate?

Yes, contact us to discuss your business and product emissions as well as travel and event related emissions reports and offsets.

How does Cleaner Climate differ from other offset companies?

We only offer UNFCCC compliant projects in developing countries, ensuring that we not only reduce carbon dioxide from polluting our atmosphere but we also uplift poorer communities. Key areas that we focus on include job creation, skills transfer and education.

Do you plant trees?  Why not?

Cleaner Climate does not plant trees.

Cleaner Climate focuses on projects that reduce carbon dioxide rather than storing it momentarily as is the process with planting trees (carbon sequestration). The reason for this is twofold.

The first reason is that energy efficiency and renewable energy projects have a methodical science inbuilt into the methodology, baseline and monitoring process where the science behind carbon sequestration is not accurate enough for us to promote and brand with our customers and partners.

Secondly we are committed to having a positive impact on the local communities we develop our projects in. We are able to empower locals with skills that will enable them to seek formal employment after the project has been completed.
