Cleaner Climate

An Indian first with the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative

IFFCO the world’s largest fertiliser co-operative, implemented a large scale energy efficiency project across 3 of its Ammonia sites in Northern India.

A variety of cutting edge technologies (some only used in 3 other sites in the world) were installed in order to reduce the Specific Steam Consumption Ratio of the Ammonia plants.

The project involved the design, engineering, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of low temperature shift guards, radial flow synthesizers and High/Mid Pressure boilers.

Over the course of the project’s life almost 3 million tonnes CO2 will be reduced due to the increased efficiency. In addition, the project provides for excellent replication at other Ammonia sites throughout India.

The project adheres to the strict methodologies of the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). See our Project page
