Fostering the wind energy industry in Inner Mongolia, China
The Ningxia region, bordering Inner Mongolia, is one of the most poverty stricken areas in China with very high rates of unemployment. It is also an area rich in two conflicting resources – coal and wind. The Jialing wind farm is one of the largest local wind projects with 67 turbines commissioned for a total capacity of 52.25MW of renewable energy. By installing the turbines of Chinese manufacturer Goldwind Science and Technology, the local wind energy industry was further enhanced with the creation of new skills and jobs. The project will reduce approximately 646,000 tonnes CO2e over its life. The project adheres to the strict methodologies of the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
