The Billabong Pro

reduce reuse recycle

Climate change is happening and it will affect each and every one of us.

In particular climate change will reshape coastal areas through rising sea levels, change water quality and potentially destroy many coral reefs.

This year sees another concerted effort by Billabong to make the Billabong Pro a greener event.

Following the success of the Green Waves program created by Cleaner Climate last year, Billabong will again utilise the global interest in the event to heighten the awareness of climate change.

Billabong and partners Cleaner Climate conducted a carbon footprint assessment of the 2010 JBay Pro to identify the greenhouse gas emissions associated with hosting the event and implemented a series of sustainable practices.

The carbon footprint assessment includes emissions arising from energy used at the event, waste, paper use, event collateral, and competitor and officials’ international and domestic travel to the event, accommodation and transport.

Once the emissions were reduced were possible via the Billabong Pro green event initiatives the remaining emissions were offset with carbon offsets.
